Wither is playing @ The Roadies Brewing Co. on June 20th. Come see us play with Nails, a Nine Inch Nails Tribute Band!
A San Diego native and lifelong metalhead, Eric Goldy’s path into heavy music was forged by fire—specifically, the iconic power of Dio’s Holy Diver. For Eric, however, the genre isn't just a playlist; it’s a family legacy.
Eric’s roots in the scene run deep. His brother, Craig Goldy, served as the guitarist for Dio, and Ronnie James Dio himself became a fixture in the Goldy family’s life. That personal connection—grounded in mutual respect and shared loss—shaped Eric’s view of music as a sacred, deeply human bond.
“Ronnie went from being my favorite to being like a part of our family. That meant everything.”
Wither was one of Eric’s favorite local acts long before he joined the lineup. Stepping into the role of bassist was a full-circle moment, moving from the front of the stage to the heart of the rhythm section. His playing is influenced by the "galloping" style of Steve Harris and the technical precision of his Dingwall basses and Ampeg stacks. While Wither often embraces "less is more," Eric brings a high-energy, "busy" style that adds a unique drive to the band's foundation.
For Eric, the bass is a tool for emotional catharsis. He gravitates toward themes of grief and despair, using the songwriting process to purge those feelings and transform them into something resonant. This intensity is balanced by a wide-ranging personal taste; offstage, he is a small business owner, a pro-wrestling enthusiast, and a fan of everything from The Conjuring films to the pop-funk precision of Bruno Mars.
“I don’t believe in guilty pleasures. If it gives you pleasure, why feel guilty?”
Eric’s favorite moments are found in the "sea of energy" that defines a live show. His favorite track to perform, "Together," encapsulates his philosophy on the relationship between the band and the crowd. Having played the historic stage of The Whisky a Go-Go, Eric remains focused on ensuring every fan gets their money’s worth.
To the Wither community, his message is as straightforward as a bassline: “Just… thank you. And we love you.”
